What is Wordnik?
Wordnik is the world’s biggest online English dictionary, by number of words.
Wordnik is a nonprofit organization, and our mission is to find and share as many words of English as possible with as many people as possible.
Definitions
Wordnik shows definitions from multiple sources, so you can see as many different takes on a word’s meaning as possible.
What do we mean by “related words”? Our word relationships include synonyms, hypernyms, hyponyms, words used in the same context, a reverse dictionary, and tags. But what does all of that mean?

WHAT IS MYVOCABULARY.COM?
A free site that allows students at high-elem., junior high and high school levels, teachers and life-long learners to acquire and retain vocabulary. Each free session has three levels: Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced. What if public schools fail?
Both of my parents are 80 this year and both are retired public schools educators. Mom was reading a news article this week about the state of public schools in North Carolina. She was shocked and appalled. As I was bringing her up to speed on several things far from her imagination since her retirement, she recalled something one of her former principal’s (Bob Clendenin) had said. “If public schools fail, so will middle class.”
As we see a shift in politics in moving towards the privatization of schools through vouchers and expansion of charters, public school employees seem to be the few who understand the big picture and long-term effects of this transformation in education.
